Mission

Company Presentation

Exail is a leading industrial player in high-tech solutions for the civil and defence sectors. Exail Robotics Belgium develops and produces unmanned surface/underwater vehicles that detect, identify, and destroy sea mines or explosives. Thanks to our innovative “standoff” concept adopted by the Belgian and Dutch navies, we can significantly reduce the risks involved in mine hunting. We also develop our own sonars, which enable to view and detect objects on the waterbed.

Task description

Embedded electronic systems used in underwater drones generate large amounts of log files containing information about the operation of various subsystems, such as sensors, communications, navigation, power management, and other onboard components.

Currently, analysing these logs requires several separate tools, making diagnostics and data interpretation time-consuming. The objective of this internship is to develop a single desktop application capable of importing, organizing, analysing, and visualizing these logs to simplify system monitoring and troubleshooting.

The main objective of the internship is to design and develop a desktop application that automatically processes log files generated by the embedded system.

The application should:

·        Import one or multiple folders containing log files.

·        Parse and organize the extracted data into meaningful categories (topics).

·        Display interactive graphs and statistics for data visualization.

·        Detect and highlight warnings, anomalies, or unexpected system behavior.

·        Provide an intuitive graphical user interface that centralizes all analysis tools.

·        Be designed with a modular and maintainable architecture to facilitate future extensions and the addition of new log formats or analysis features.

Related tasks

·        Design a user-friendly graphical interface (Python or C++).

·        Develop efficient log parsing and data processing modules.

·        Implement configurable analysis parameters.

·        Optimize performance for large datasets.

·        Validate the application using real log files.

·        Write technical documentation and user documentation.

·        Participate in software testing, debugging, and code reviews.

Required skills

·        Good command of Dutch or French. Can have a conversation in English. You will work in an international environment

·        Knowledge of Python and C++, experience with object-oriented programming

·        Being able to work in a team

·        Take initiative in resolving issues and proposing solutions

·        Basic knowledge of data processing and visualization

·        Experience with larger projects in an agile environment (2-week sprints, scrum, JIRA) is a plus

·        Experience with front-end development, web technologies, cmake, gtest is a plus

In Practice

-        Duration: flexible, minimum 3 months total.

-        Physical presence on site is required. Mouscron is about a 15-minute drive from Kortrijk. By public transport, our offices are 15 minutes by bike or bus from the train station. Occasionally, we can arrange a visit (and transport) to the Ostend factory where our unmanned vehicles are built.
